It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
